Reports to:
The Communications Director is directly accountable to and works under the direct supervision of CEO.
F-Time:
40 hours per week
Work Schedule:
The work schedule may be flexible and is to be arranged with the approval of the Executive Director.

Responsibilities:
The Development & Communications Director will be responsible for planning, managing and executing the organization's development efforts and its internal/external marketing communications. Development activities include developing fundraising strategies, plans and actively executing those plans, in concert with the CEO. This position is also responsible for coordinating the marketing and promotions efforts, activities, promotional materials and projects of the organization, with the goal of expanding target-audience awareness of the services of Virginia Voice and attracting that potential audience to utilize our services.
- Working closely with the CEO to develop plans to optimize donations and grants from individuals, foundations, corporations, service organizations, special events and any other source of philanthropy that may benefit the people served by Virginia Voice.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with individuals and organizations to the mutual benefit of those who support Virginia Voice and those we serve.
- With input from the CEO, focus on fundraising efforts that diversify VA Voice funding sources with the goal of meeting expense requirements and diffusing and reducing the risk of suffering catastrophic losses of relatively large funders.
- Develop communication strategies, and may serve as the spokesperson and media contact for the organization at the direction and approval of the Executive Director.
- Maintain current and appropriate promotional materials, overseeing the design and creation of these materials.
- Maintain working relationships with representatives of area print and broadcast media to facilitate publicity and promotion of the organization and its services.
- Nurture and foster mutually beneficial and reciprocal relationships with current and potential partner entities and with client-compatible organizations, agencies, companies, etc., with the goal of promoting our services among their clientele and their services among our clientele.
- Attend and engage with the community at outreach events.
- Serve as grant writer to ensure that the content of the grant applications and proposals illustrates our Virginia Voice story in a way that best reflects the culture of the organization, our mission and our need.
- Work with the Program & Volunteer Director to facilitate programming featuring representatives of partner entities and client-compatible organizations/agencies, with the goal of informing our clientele of services, products, opportunities, etc. offered throughout the community.
- Optimize the organization’s website for promotion of our services:
- Manage design and content of our Virginia Voice website, with the exception of the programs and the volunteer pages.
- Manage the organization’s social media efforts (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
- Seek web-reciprocal relationships with partner organizations and with client-compatible organizations
- Create and disseminate monthly and special edition e-newsletter communications
- Manage design and content of the print newsletters.
