Job Summary

The University of Utah Campus Store is seeking a Starbucks Manager who will work directly under the Frontline Administrative Manager to manage the University Campus Store Starbucks location.

Under the general direction of the Frontline Administrative Manager and Starbucks District Manager, this position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling all aspects of the Campus Store's Starbucks location. This position is responsible for contributing to the success of the Campus Store and maintaining the Starbucks Experience for its customers. The store manager is required to exercise regular discretion in managing the overall operation of the department. A majority of time is spent supervising and directing the workforce, making staffing decisions, ensuring customer satisfaction and product quality, managing the department's financial performance, and managing safety and security within the department. Under minimal supervision, this manager will also be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and/or controlling all aspects pertaining to food service functions of assigned department's internal and external customer service, human resource, and financial management operations pertaining to areas including (but not limited to) menu planning, training, certification/permit monitoring, ordering and inventory management, storage, promotion execution, and scheduling. Lastly, this position will be responsible for helping open/close the store, and punctuality will be a key to success.

Leadership

Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together.

Maintains a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events and manages smooth transitions thereafter to keep store operating to standard and to set a positive example.

Provides coaching and direction to the store team to take action and to achieve operational goals. Constantly reviews store environment and key business indicators to identify problems, concerns, and opportunities for improvement, and uses these findings to provide coaching and direction to the store team to achieve operational goals.

Planning and Execution

Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results.

Monitors and manages store staffing levels to ensure partner development and talent acquisition to achieve and maintain store operational requirements.

Utilizes existing tools to identify and prioritize communications and regularly uses discretion to filter communications to the store team. Communicates clearly, concisely, and accurately to ensure effective store operations.

Solicits customer feedback to understand customer needs and the needs of the local community.

Uses all operational tools to plan for and achieve operational excellence in the store. Tools include Automated Labor Scheduling, Monthly Status Report, Quarterly Business Review, cash management, and inventory management.

Uses discretion in accessing external resources to support store operations and to execute district and regional initiatives. Resources include Partner Resources, Marketing, Partner & Asset Protection, Food & Beverage, Coffee, and Retail Implementation departments.

Utilizes management information tools and analyzes financial reports to identify and address trends and issues in store performance with an emphasis on COGS and personnel cost.

Partner Development & Team Building

Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams

Actively manages store partners by regularly conducting performance assessments, providing feedback, and setting challenging goals to improve partner performance. Manages ongoing partner performance using performance management tools to support organizational objectives.

Develops and maintains positive relationships with partners in the district by understanding and addressing individual motivation, needs, and concerns.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department's area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Master's degree in a related area may be preferred.
