JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Senior HVAC Specialist evaluates the needs of various areas across campus in order to perform routine maintenance and repairs to building heat, ventilation, air conditioning systems, pipe systems, pipe support, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, and industrial production and processing systems. This position is essential personnel and will be required to respond to emergencies/overtime as required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Investigates technical problems and determines the best solution to maintain service to the campus area.
  2. Monitors and corrects any deficiencies in HVAC systems as directed.
  3. Inspect water lines, steam lines, and/or pneumatic lines for correct fluid levels.
  4. Performs repairs on machines and equipment to maintain proper working conditions; reports major breakdowns to supervisor.
  5. Installs commercial and industrial hydronic piping systems.
  6. Inspects and maintains pipes and piping systems to assess quality and condition for safety; assists in repairing leaks and adjustments to piping systems.
  7. Monitors wear on equipment parts such as v-belts, shaft alignment, and oil and water levels on equipment; identifies conditions that could lead to equipment failure.
  8. Monitors heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems for malfunctions, replaces filters, and grease and oil equipment parts to prevent failures.
  9. Documents services dates, problems, repairs, or replacements of equipment, and equipment parts; uses designated computer software to analyze data on equipment conditions as assigned.
  10. Operates drill motors, grinders, chop saw, hack saw, and burning torch.
  11. Coordinates the layout equipment, supports, piping, and accessories.
  12. Assembles industrial piping modules, high-pressure piping systems, food grade and high purity systems dependent upon the skills and abilities of the welder.
  13. Maintains tools and equipment used in fitting pipe systems.
  14. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (Vocational School or Technical Training is preferred.) (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of HVAC-related experience. Must have a valid Driver’s License

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: EPA Refrigerant Handling Certificate and OSHA 10 Certification or higher required. Valid Driver’s License is required. (COPY OF LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED)

WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to lift up to 75 lbs., climb and work from ladders for an extended period of time, and crawl and work in tight areas. Ability to work in extreme cold/heat environments.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

· Knowledge of systems operations and ability to read and follow blueprints.

· Knowledge of typical AHU maintenance and operation.

· Ability to weld using all welding equipment.

· Ability to use all pipe fitting tools and equipment.

· Mechanical knowledge and skill to service and repair HVAC systems and related equipment.

· Knowledge of typical building heating systems maintenance and operations.

· Ability to troubleshoot piping problems and correct or assist in correcting the issue.

· Knowledge of basic computer skills and Microsoft applications.

· Ability to use all hand tools associated with HVAC trade.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position may frequently be required to work evenings and weekends.
