Job Overview

Hoxworth Blood Center (HBC), University of Cincinnati, was founded in 1938 and serves more than 30 hospitals in 18 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, Hoxworth collects more than 100,000 units of blood from local donors to help save the lives of patients in area hospitals. Hoxworth Blood Center: Saving Lives Close to Home. HBC is located within the College of Medicine and is the only Regional Blood Center owned and operated by a University in United States.

HBC is recruiting for Division Director, Core Operations, to provide leadership, vision, and direction for donor center core operations. This senior level position provides oversight of programs related to Biomedical Engineering, Materials Management, Physical Operations, and computer software informational systems. Experience in daily production of cleanroom environments, as well as interviewing, selection, hiring, and training of new employees with knowledge in cleanroom environment and regulatory framework in accordance with cGMP, FDA, and ISO regulations pertinent to the environmental control in ISO7/8 facilities is crucial.

The Division Director, Core Operations enforces current strategic planning initiatives; develops new activities and department goals in support of blood center strategic plans. Directs and facilitates cross functional activities that support the interdepartmental communications, productivity, and quality between various operating units. Develops innovative processes for monitoring operations to ensure high quality customer service and successful delivery of outputs. Fiscal responsibilities along with acquisition and maintenance of all materials/supplies for efficient operation of the departments. Promotes training, leadership, and management skills. Provides direct supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff. Performs related duties based on departmental need.

Essential Functions
  • Provide strategic vision and leadership to help manage, grow, and execute donor center core operations in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Develop policies and implement procedures to enforce strategic planning initiatives; develop new activities and goals to support the BECS Administrators, Biomedical Specialists, staff in the Materials Management and Physical Operations departments at the Division Director level.
  • Develop metrics and goals on key performance indicators of productivity for Core Operations departments.
  • Work cross functionally to help the overall mission across the various operating units.
  • Direct and administer the development of departmental budgets in Biomedical Engineering, Materials Management, Physical Operations and BECS; approve all supplies and expenditures.
  • Ensure departmental processes, procedures, and service activities are compliant with federal, state, local and accreditation, laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Direct the development and management of training and education of all employees in the departments.
  • Ensure departments remain current with new innovations, technology, equipment, software, and services.
  • Ensure all department related contracts are current and all benefits related to such contracts are optimized in the department.
  • Organize, coordinate, and implement programs that support improved interdepartmental communication, productivity, and quality between and among all operational departments.
  • Establish, set, and meet year to year strategic goals for each Core Operations department in coordination with Chief Blood Operations Officer.
  • Establish, set, and meet year to year strategic goals related to customer experience for all staff in Core Operations in coordination with the Customer Experience department.
  • Support Hoxworth Blood Center's safety, cGMP, and Quality Plan in coordination with the Division Director, Quality and Regulatory Affairs.
  • Determine necessity to collaborate with other departmental Division Directors, Senior Management Team, and/or organizational Cabinet members.
  • Support and promote all aspects of our commitment to inclusion and core values.
  • Serve on Hoxworth Blood Center Senior Management Team and blood banking industry organizations and committees.
  • Provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree must be in a healthcare field, biological sciences field, computer sciences field, or applicable field

Required Experience

Seven (7) years of relevant work experience in the fields of equipment management, computer and software information systems, blood banking, biotherapies, transfusion medicine, or scientific research.

Three (3) years of direct supervisory experience managing employees, teams, and assets.

Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • MT/MLS (ASCP) certification preferred
  • Working knowledge of computer software, metrology, inventory control, facilities maintenance, and ISO certification experience highly desired
  • Strong understanding of regulatory aspects in blood banking and biotherapies
  • Strong credentials on approaches to customer service.
  • Strong technical and operational management experience.
  • Proven track-record for implementing strategies that enhance productivity.
