Foreman – Street Maintenance
The Town of Abingdon, Virginia is currently accepting applications for the position of Foreman, Street Maintenance. This position is primarily responsible for overseeing the maintenance of the Town's streets, storm drainage systems and channels, sidewalks, and other public amenities, and planning and assigning tasks to personnel in the Street Maintenance Division.
This position reports directly to the Superintendent of Streets & Sanitation. Other duties include assisting with budget preparation and work schedules, and training new employees. This position is also responsible for coordination with Town mechanics in routine maintenance on equipment used in street maintenance. This position also requires assisting other divisions in responding to emergency situations. The position requires occasional overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, (preferably) vocational training, and 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible experience in construction and/or maintenance activities, operation of heavy equipment, or any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Other requirements include a valid driver's license, a CDL license or the ability to obtain a CDL license within 6 months.
Salary is depending on qualifications with a minimum starting salary of $37,440 annually. A pre-employment drug screen and background check are required.
