Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate’s degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.

The Dean of Workforce Development and Continuing Education is responsible to the Vice President of Academic and Student Services for the administration of comprehensive workforce and community education programs and services for business, industry, and the community at large.

The Dean will enhance visibility and promote workforce and community education within the Southern Appalachian region. The Dean will develop and administer specialized non-credit course offerings, programs, seminars, workshops, events and other initiatives to support workforce development, continuing/community education for both professional and personal enrichment. The Dean is primarily responsible for implementing a strategic plan for the College’s efforts in workforce development and non-credit programming and for establishing new partnerships with employers within the region. This is an administrative faculty position for 12 months.

- Provides strategic, innovative leadership in the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of programs and services designed to meet the needs of business and industry
- Leads outreach initiatives and develops partnerships with business and industry
- Conducts needs assessment, develops proposals, coordinates, implements, and evaluates customized and open-enrollment training for non-credit offerings
- Coordinates recruitment, supervision and evaluation of workforce faculty and staff
- Ensures that the division and the College offers an inclusive environment that celebrates and promotes an understanding and respect across a diverse student body, campus community, and local workforce
- Works cooperatively with academic divisions and other internal and external partners in planning and implementing non-credit courses
- Attends meetings and maintains appropriate partnerships and communications on behalf of SWCC
- Ensures division compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, accrediting commissions, and licensing bodies
- Prepares/monitors budgets, coordinates with other divisions and partners to assure optimum resource utilization; maintains records and inventories, as well as compiling and submitting reports in accordance with college and VCCS policies
- Directs the scheduling of instruction and oversees the coordination of educational resources
- Provides oversite of programming and staff at the Southern Gap Transportation and Logistics Center
- Ensures that state mandated performance measures are reported in a timely fashion
