SALARY: $23.30 - $30.42 per hour (exempt from overtime pay) Starting rate typically $23.30 - $26.67 per hour

DESCRIPTION: Under limited supervision and a high level of judgment required, this advanced technical services position is responsible for administering, coordinating and maintaining the Computer Technology and Communications and New Media Programs and supporting all other computer labs on all SMCC campuses. An employee in this classification shall serve as the primary technical resource to the CIO on the design, image creation, implementation, upgrade, management, advanced troubleshooting & technical support for a community college computer lab. The employee performs a full range of administrative functions in a complex computing environment with minimal direction or technical support. Additional responsibilities include assisting in the development of information technology plans for a community college, working with faculty and staff to determine future needs and consulting with the Information Systems Manager and CIO on new policies and procedures. This classification is distinguished from the ISS II in that work is performed in a complex lab computing environment composed of multiple and varied operating systems, networks, servers, and application systems, including proprietary systems unique to specific academic program areas. Position must analyze and resolve computer and peripheral related issues inclusive of hardware, software, configuration, optimization, and printing in a diverse desktop computing environment. This position has to be able to come up with creative ways to solve problems. Must be continually looking for more efficient ways of installing software and creating images. Will be actively involved in desktop virtualization (VDI / Citrix / Other).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in computer related field and three years of experience installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading all PC hardware and equipment to ensure optimal workstation performance. Equivalent experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of complex design, image creation, implementation, upgrades, management, and troubleshooting of computer. Particularly using Microsoft SCCM and WSUS, VMWare Horizon and WDS to maintain labs on all SMCC campuses, as well as project management concerning computer lab replacement cycles.
- Ability to coordinate and / or perform installations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of desktop and laptop computers on all campuses, requiring analysis and resolution.
- Responsible for technical documentation for software and hardware use and skilled in providing support in the research, development, and maintenance of desktop documentation (how labs are configured)
- Ability to keep up to date on current computer technology in order to make informed recommendations regarding policy improvements and future needs in the computer labs, in working with faculty, ISS Manager, and CIO
- Ability to plan and assist students and faculty in the labs by demonstrating proper use of the equipment and use of hardware and software
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
