Position Summary

Reporting to the Department Chair, the Lab Manager is responsible for coordinating and managing the instructional labs in the Department of Biological Sciences.

 

The position may include some weekday evenings and Saturdays.

 

Essential Functions        

  • Responsible for the smooth operation of biology lab sections (FCRH and PCS). These include labs in such courses as Introductory Biology, Microbiology, Genetics, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, and Ecology.
  • Assists to supervise graduate student lab assistants and instructors, and support faculty lab instructors. Facilitates and supports student learning and instructor teaching.
  • Helps to set up and prepare labs.
  • Assists to maintain consistent inventory of lab supplies, organize, and occasionally place supply orders as needed.
  • Helps run weekly lab preparatory meetings for Introductory Biology lab courses.
  • Assists maintain a safe working environment and enforce all safety policies.
  • Helps to list, maintain, and properly dispose of chemical inventory.

Not responsible for supervision or oversight of others.

         

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience        

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Life Science or a related field
  • Lab research experience and teaching or teaching assistant experience desirable
  • General computer experience- ability to work with documents and spreadsheets

 

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills     

  • Excellent organizational skills; attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent judgment, diplomacy, and discretion necessary in handling confidential and/or sensitive materials
  • Good at solving problems and dealing with emergencies
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • M.S. or other advanced degree
  • Lab research experience and teaching or teaching assistant experience

 

Minimum Starting Salary: $62,400

 

Maximum Starting Salary: $77,000

 

Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
