JOB SUMMARY
-
Schedules and coordinates the activity of the Cardiology staff to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the department. Works closely with the Director of Cardiopulmonary, the Cardiologist, and the hospital staff. Oversees training and ensures competency of department staff. Ensures physicians’ orders for procedures are being carried out in a manner supportive of patient care, safety and HIPAA compliance. Supervises and participates in a variety of Cardiac diagnostic procedures including: Cardiac stress test, with and without injection of Isotopes, EKG, Holter Monitor, Tilt Tables and Echocardiograms and Transesophageal Echocardiograms. Assists Director with maintenance, development, and implementation of policies and procedures, Joint Commission standard compliance, and improvement initiatives.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and/or experience: Registered Nurse with current Tennessee License. Associate/BS degree in nursing. BLS/ACLS certified. 2-4 years clinical nursing with emphasis in the care of cardiac patients. 2-3 years experience in Cardiac Diagnostic testing including Echocardiography, with completion of a cardiac dysrhythmia course.

Knowledge: Knowledge of operation and trouble shooting of diagnostic equipment including; treadmills, EKG machines, Cardiac ultrasound equipment. Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology as well as cardiac terminology and cardiac medications needed. Knowledge of hospital wide and departmental policies.

Skills: Requires active listening, to give full attention to what the patients say, ask or request. Excellent verbal communication to interact with patients and families as well as co-workers and physicians. Must have good critical thinking and problem solving skills. Requires excellent PC skills, as well as knowledge of Microsoft Word. Requires good IV skills.

Abilities: Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships; understand and follow oral and written instructions, accept responsibility for accuracy and responsiveness. Must possess verbal and written abilities to interact and communicate with staff, physicians, and patients in a professional manner.
