This position pays between $60,000 and $75,000 annually.
Advance Local, one of the nation’s largest news publishers reaching more than 52 million people per month, has an exciting opportunity for a News and Content SEO Specialist.
As a News and Content SEO Specialist with Advance Local, you’ll support core business goals by collaborating across key stakeholders to implement SEO initiatives that drive traffic and visibility. As part of your role, you’ll provide training on editorial best practices that lead to traffic growth.
You will be responsible for:
- Supporting news and trending teams, that provides regular and timely SEO updates on up-and-coming trends, keyword guidance, on-page optimization, and tactical best practices to content creators.
- Conducting fundamental SEO activities, including keyword research, SERP analysis, site, section, and page audits, headline analysis, and technical reviews.
- Implementing enterprise-level SEO initiatives that drive growth and achieve key business goals.
- Monitoring and tracking performance of traffic trends across sites.
- Thinking beyond the keyword to drive initiatives which focus on optimization for Search, Google Discover, and Google News.
- Training newsroom staff on general best practices and individual growth opportunities while maintaining training materials and schedule.
- Adapting to both industry and business changes while actively identifying and finding new ways and practices to affect growth.
Our ideal candidates will have the following:
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred) or the equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum two years’ hands-on experience in SEO implementation, ideally at enterprise-level organizations or with large media sites; News SEO experience is a big plus
- Knowledge of Google Search Console and Google Analytics (Bing Webmaster tools preferred)
- Experience with 3rd party SEO industry tools (i.e. Botify, SEMRush, Ahrefs, etc.)
- An SEO professional with the ability to explain how results are accomplished
- A level of clear and effective written and verbal communication skills to help present, educate, and train news team members
- Constantly on the hunt for low-hanging fruit and traffic growth opportunities, with the skills to explain why certain initiatives are likely to lead to positive performance
- Comfort working in fast-paced environments across a multitude of site properties, initiatives and business groups
- Understanding SEO methodologies behind E-E-A-T, crawl efficiency and budget, topic clustering (or silos), topical authority, the interplay between Search, Discover, and News, video-based Search activity, and algorithm updates
- The ability to keep organized multiple, on-going initiatives, effectively prioritizing tasks and deadlines with initiative and pivot as news demands
- The ability to work autonomously and take ownership of business initiatives while working alongside other SEO team members to align plans and goals
